Oonagh, the instructor, came over and gave me a brief consultation. “Take a break, have some water,” she said, “and when we do the circuit I’ll give you different exercises to do that won’t hurt your knees.”
The circuit was ten stations spread around the gym. The exercises were a mix of cardio and resistance training intended to keep it challenging but easy to do at all exercise levels. The plank (aka- the superman) was my nemesis while football pumps were my cardio of choice.
For the second week, my goal was to keep moving as best as I could. If I couldn’t jog, I would do jumping jacks, if I couldn’t do squat jumps I would do wall sits – whatever I did it didn’t matter, so long as I was moving, my heart was pumping and the sweat was forming.
Week two was done before I knew it and I was 50% finished the course. I was skeptical that I was going to lose any weight by the end of the session. If anything I was starting to notice my clothes were fitting tighter. I’m sure there wasn’t any reason to worry, but I wasn’t looking on being bigger than I already am.
Just a little stressed, but I’m still feeling good. I’m realizing that once you get to end of the second week, the mantra is: Taking that leap to get to bootcamp is the major part of the battle, making it fit into your life is their goal.
Third week is on the horizon and I can’t wait to see what happens.
Week 2 Survival Guide:
- Look out for the Best Body Bootcamp emails. There are meal suggestions and tips to help keep you on track.
- Add @bestbodbootcamp to your Twitter feed. You get answers to your bootcamp questions outside of the sessions.
- Eat before you go. If you go to class and you didn’t eat all day, you will crash. Eat a banana when you get home and a little instant oatmeal if you need something more. Slow release of energy will save you!
- Short of breath? Get fresh air!! At the school gym we would open the door to the outside, made a huge difference.
- Don’t be afraid! When you near exhaustion commit to at least one more push-up, squat, sit up, burpee, arm curl or whatever. You will surprise yourself on what you can do.
I found Debbie Drake on Bizarre Records… haha… why? Fate!
