The Hollywood Rules

1092040_80372505

The glamour of Los Angeles eroded fast. Up at 2am in the Hollywood Hills with a mickey of cachaca and the remains of an earlier visit to Whole Foods, I look at my friend Helena and confessed, “I’m ready to go home now.”

The business trip to L.A. had only just begun and the long days of standing at attention for 12 hours plus had begun to take their toll. Adrenalin from the thrill of outfitting Emmy nominated celebrities with Helena’s jewelry did as much to fuel the two us as did the Beverly Hills Starbucks.

Guests walk off with loot bags brimming with chichi-poopoo-lala treats that make the world wonder: why are the richest people getting free swag they could easily pay for otherwise?

This was an opportunity of a life time. Before the 61st Emmy Awards, Helena Haughey was the personal jewelry designer to her entourage of besties. Custom created pieces fashioned from polished semi-precious stones, silver and pearls made Helena’s designs coveted above anything else. Feenie Beadie was an exclusive line that was only sold on a personal referral basis and in silent auctions at Toronto’s most sought after charity functions. Now, we were fastening necklaces around the necks of Angela Bassett, Anna Gunn and Vanessa Williams.

The premise behind gifting suites wasn’t a new one to us. Before we left Toronto, a quick Google search confirmed that for the days leading into any major film or television event, celebrities, their entourages and people of note are invited to gifting suites at undisclosed locations along with select members of the press. The suites are artfully arranged with high end goodies. Guests walk off with loot bags brimming with chichi-poopoo-lala treats that make the world wonder: why are the richest people getting free swag they could easily pay for otherwise?

Wow my dreams of attending an award event has been qualshed. Famous people are only slighty more annoying than the ranglers that keep them away from the public.
Great account mingers, it almost has a gonzo appeal to the whole style, especially if H.S.T.’s nuts feel off and he became the chick from sex in the city.

    Kudos

Interesting insight into the elite side of Hollywood. The privileged will always want and need freebies to remind them how famous they are, at least until their pedestal crumbles and they fall from favor. Nice job on article Kamacake, look forward to more insider reporting.

    Hi
How did Helen get involved in this?
Feathered was involved this past TIFF with a gifting suite and the response was overwhelming. I would like to find out how she got involved with the emmy’s gifting suite as that is something i would love to be involved in.

    Thanks!
